Writing an Obituary

In years to come, family, friends and many others will learn about your loved one by reading their obituary. Traditional newspaper obituaries are restrictive in both space and time. Shared Sorrows allows you plenty of space and encourages you to write a “word portrait” for your loved one. And, while newspaper obituaries could not be amended, we recommend that you update the obituary to include reflections on the funeral services. Professional writers are available to help you write the perfect tribute.

Cremation has been used since prehistoric times and in many cultures it is preferred over burial. The ancient Greeks believed that burning a body freed the soul. Cremation is far less expensive than a traditional burial and environmentally, it is preferred. Many people keep their loved one's ashes in an urn, but today you are only limited by your imagination as to what to do with cremated remains.

Nominations will be accepted from hospice patients, their family and friends, or hospice coworkers. No self-nominations, please.
